CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – In Egypt, at the close of August 2026, the nation’s net international reserves attained an all-time high of $57.2145 billion. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this provisional figure on September 7. Reserves stood at $56.2939 billion at July’s end, reflecting a monthly rise of approximately $920.6 million, or 1.6%. This latest figure marks the first occasion where Egypt’s official reserves have surpassed the $57 billion mark.

The August reserve figure also continues a consistent upward trend that has persisted throughout 2026. Starting the year with reserves of $52.5938 billion in January, Egypt’s holdings increased steadily each month—reaching $52.7455 billion in February, $52.8306 billion in March, $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. By August, reserves had grown roughly $4.62 billion from January and about $5.76 billion from the end of December 2025.
This growth accelerated midway through the year. From $53.1342 billion in May, reserves climbed to $55.0723 billion in June, then advanced further to $56.2939 billion in July before hitting the record high in August. The combined increase over these three months exceeded $4 billion. Compared to August 2025, the latest total is approximately $7.96 billion higher, representing an estimated annual growth rate of around 16.2%.
Remittances bolster foreign currency inflows
Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also set a new record for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. According to the Central Bank of Egypt, these inflows totaled approximately $47.3 billion, up from about $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year—an increase of 29.6%. In June alone, remittances reached approximately $4.2 billion, a 15.6% rise compared to around $3.6 billion in June 2025.
Egypt’s latest balance of payments figures cover the first nine months of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During the July to March period, the overall balance showed a deficit of $1.8 billion. The capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion, while the current account recorded a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official perspective on Egypt’s external financial position before the August reserve update.
Continuous monthly reserve increases persist in 2026
Throughout 2026, the reserve figures have reached successive nominal highs. Holdings exceeded $55 billion in June, moved above $56 billion in July, and in August, the reserve level surpassed $57 billion for the first time. Egypt now reports three consecutive month-end reserve totals exceeding $55 billion. The August figure is more than 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion recorded at December’s close of 2025.
These latest data position Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest-ever recorded level, extending a consistent monthly growth trend since the beginning of 2026. From January through August, each month’s reserve total was higher than the previous one. Although the August figure remains provisional per the central bank’s reporting standards, the published data clearly indicate an upward trajectory in Egypt’s reserve accumulation during the first eight months of the year.
