CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has announced the availability of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring notable improvements in camera technology, battery performance, and processing capabilities. Both models are equipped with the new A20 Pro chip and a redesigned vapor chamber to maintain consistent high performance. Additionally, Apple introduced a more compact Dynamic Island and advanced camera controls tailored for professional users. Preorders will open on September 12, with sales beginning on September 18 in over 65 countries and regions worldwide.

The most significant camera upgrade is a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Six internal blades enable the lens to shift between four aperture settings. Users can manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. A histogram feature displays exposure levels while framing a scene. The new imaging system also introduces enhanced texture and grain controls for Photographic Styles, while video recording users can add Cinematic effects after filming.
Apple is also launching Reference Image, a feature designed for users who need verification if a photograph has been modified. This opt-in function records signed sensor data when capturing an image in Reference mode. Private Cloud Compute then processes this data into a reference image for comparison within the Photos app. Apple has announced plans to support the upcoming SynthID standard through a software update later this year. Metadata embedded in images will serve as an additional tool for identifying AI-generated or edited content.
Variable aperture provides greater control for photographers
The A20 Pro chip, manufactured with a 2-nanometer process, combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU can operate up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. A new thermal architecture places the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber, enabling up to 40% higher sustained performance compared to the previous generation, according to Apple.
Battery capacity has also been expanded, especially on models that operate solely with eSIM. Apple states the iPhone 18 Pro can last up to 36 hours during video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours under the same conditions. The Pro models can achieve a 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes using compatible wired accessories. eSIM-only variants will be available in markets including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the region.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI support for the latest Pro models
The new iPhone 18 Pro series runs on iOS 27 and supports the next phase of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14, initially available for supported devices set to English. Apple plans to roll out support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. The AI assistant can leverage data from messages, emails, and photos upon user request. It can also interact with on-screen content and work seamlessly with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute to handle supported cloud functions.
Both models will be available in shades of burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Preorders will open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail sales commencing on September 18 in the initial list of markets. An additional 20 countries and regions are expected to start offering the iPhone 18 Pro lineup beginning September 25.
