Seattle, Washington / RankWire.AI / – In Seattle on Wednesday, specialty coffee leader Starbucks announced its fiscal third-quarter 2026 financial results, exceeding Wall Street analysts’ projections for both earnings and comparable store sales. Market disclosures revealed that Starbucks stock surged as efforts to reclaim third place gained momentum, boosting the company’s outlook for 2026 and causing shares to climb more than five percent in after-hours trading on the Nasdaq. The company reported consolidated net revenues of $9.3 billion for the 13-week period ending June 28, 2026, driven by an 8.1 percent increase in North American store sales and ongoing margin improvements across its global operations.

Global comparable store sales increased 7.9 percent year-over-year during the quarter, fueled by a 4.2 percent rise in customer transactions and a 3.5 percent growth in average ticket size. In the United States, the core domestic market, comparable store sales also grew 7.9 percent, supported by steady foot traffic and improved morning service efficiency. Non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share reached $0.85, comfortably beating analyst consensus estimates of $0.65, as compiled by Yahoo Finance. The GAAP operating margin expanded by 60 basis points to 10.5 percent, benefiting from sales leverage, supply chain efficiencies, and tariff duty refunds during the quarter.

This impressive quarterly performance highlights progress in the company’s turnaround strategy, emphasizing seating atmosphere, beverage speed, and customer hospitality. International segment comparable store sales rose 5.7 percent, driven by increases in average ticket size and positive transaction counts across European and Middle Eastern licensed markets. Despite a one percent decline in overall net revenues to $9.3 billion due to the restructuring of retail operations in China into a licensed joint venture model during the third quarter, North American operating income grew to $1.0 billion from $918.7 million in the same period last year, supported by menu innovations and enhanced store throughput due to reduced order downtime.

Starbucks Reports Strong Third Quarter Earnings Outperforming Expectations

Building on four straight quarters of comparable store sales growth and two consecutive quarters of margin expansion, company leadership has upgraded its full-year financial outlook across key metrics. The new guidance projects full-year fiscal 2026 non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share between $2.55 and $2.65, up 10 percent from previous estimates of $2.25 to $2.45 per share. Bloomberg coverage indicates that global comparable store sales for the year are now expected to grow nearly 6.0 percent, with the United States’ fourth-quarter growth forecast at 6.5 percent or higher.

During the earnings webcast, Starbucks CEO and Chairman Brian Niccol highlighted that the third quarter’s results demonstrate the company’s core strength in coffee excellence and customer experience. Niccol pointed out that operational execution continues across the worldwide store network, with the metrics confirming positive momentum in restoring store atmosphere and drive-thru efficiency. CFO Cathy Smith added that disciplined expense control and revenue growth have provided clarity to raise the full-year outlook, aiming for a consolidated operating margin exceeding 11.0 percent.

Adjusted third quarter profits surpass Wall Street analyst forecasts

Throughout the quarter, Starbucks maintained a disciplined pace of expansion, opening 175 net new stores globally, bringing its total count to 41,304 locations. Company-operated stores now make up 33 percent of the worldwide footprint, with the remaining 67 percent being licensed outlets across domestic and international markets. The earnings report confirms that Starbucks stock surged as its efforts to revive growth and improve the 2026 outlook met with positive investor response, supported by institutional investors’ confidence in capital strategies that include steady quarterly dividends and investments in store renovations and technology upgrades.

Looking ahead to the final quarter of fiscal 2026, retail analysts and equity experts anticipate ongoing focus on menu simplification and equipment upgrades to sustain store throughput improvements. The third-quarter results reinforce Starbucks’ operational trajectory, positioning the global coffee chain to meet its elevated financial goals for the full fiscal year.
