BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – Berlin served as the venue for discussions between UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul during President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit from September 9 to 11. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, fostering economic cooperation, and development initiatives. They also included reviews of regional and international issues, emphasizing diplomacy, peace, and security. The meeting coincided with the state visit to Germany.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

During the talks, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul explored ways to bolster the strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany across diverse sectors. Key topics included economic relations and development collaboration. The ministers also exchanged perspectives on global issues and diplomatic efforts aimed at crisis resolution. Sheikh Abdullah underscored the strong ties between the two nations and their history of cooperation in both political and economic domains.

This Berlin meeting came amid an expansion of the formal framework governing UAE-Germany relations. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed also held a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The two leaders announced a Strategic Dialogue encompassing security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology sectors. The dialogue also extends to digitalization, transportation, environmental initiatives, culture, and education, broadening the scope of ongoing government collaboration.

Economic Framework Extends Through Broader Strategic Partnership

Both governments endorsed plans for establishing a German-UAE Investment Council. This effort aims to deepen connections between public institutions and private enterprises in both countries. Officials welcomed the resumption of the Joint Economic Committee and praised outcomes from a bilateral business forum. According to the joint government declaration, the visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros.

Economic discussions also covered sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration highlighted cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It mentioned plans for advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt capacity. Germany and the UAE also identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as future areas for bilateral collaboration, alongside investments and industrial development.

Focus on Diplomacy and Regional Stability Continues

Addressing regional and global issues, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul examined efforts to promote peace, stability, and security on the international stage. Their discussions emphasized diplomatic approaches to crises. The German government had also highlighted Middle East peace and stability as key topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ dialogue within the broader diplomatic framework in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the meeting between the two foreign ministers. These discussions linked foreign policy priorities with the economic and developmental themes addressed during the state visit. The talks also built on previous UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026. The recent meetings introduced new institutional mechanisms to reinforce the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, ensuring that economic cooperation, investment, and diplomacy remain core elements of the relationship.
